Find Out How Dr. Divi Can
Find Relief to Your Ear Problems

The ears are actually comprised of three main areas: the outer, middle, and inner portions. Like nose and throat problems, there are myriad reasons for ear issues. Chief among them (and most frequently seen in Dr. Divi’s practice) are ear infections–seen most often in patients in the infant stage or early childhood. Our ears are also actually interconnected to our nose and throat through our eustachian tubes, meaning that where there are throat and nose problems there are oftentimes ear problems as well. Most often this can be seen in the inflammation of the adenoids resulting in an inability of the ears to drain. Usually, this swelling and inflammation are caused by simple allergies but it can cause pressure in the ears and recurring infections. In these cases, allergies must first be ruled out, then Dr. Divi will customize a treatment plan to each patient’s specific needs.

How Our Ear Doctor & Specialist Diagnose Your Symptoms

At San Pedro Clinic in San Pedro, Los Angeles, the diagnostic process begins with an in-person examination and Dr. Divi asking a battery of questions in order to form the clearest picture of the patient’s problem and develop an accompanying treatment approach. In some cases, the answers to these questions and a quick look at the inside of the ears and throat will be enough to diagnose the issue. In other instances, a small camera (or scope), about the width of a piece of spaghetti, can be used to effectively examine the eustachian tube opening located in the throat, and microscopes and tiny endoscopes can be used to identify issues within the canal and eardrum itself. Blood or skin tests may also be run to rule out allergies as the causation for ear infections and inflammation.

TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR EAR PROBLEMS

Like conditions affecting other parts of the body, treatment of ear problems will first begin with medicinal therapy, including antibiotics and other medications for ear infections. If infections are recurrent they can become antibiotic-resistant and minor medical procedures may provide a more permanent solution. In children, Dr. Divi may recommend ear tubes but treatments will vary based on the cause of ear problems. In order to create the most effective personalized treatment plan, Dr. Divi will work with you to best address your symptoms.
